I'm looking for a spark in the dark
With my arms outstretched as I feel for the parts
And I'd like to write bout mountains and the big blue sky
Or the haunting effect of your beautiful eyes
But when my pencil touches paper and I'm ready to go
The pencil doesn't move and my frustration grows
Then my hands shift over to start tapping the keys
And I look for a distraction automatically
On my Facebook feed
Like a heroin addict lying on the street
Happy for the moment, but not really
And I'll beat myself up as the hours pass
And I've done nothing but look through glass.
Don't you, don't you wish it came easy?
It doesn't come easy anymore
Everything used to come easy
It doesn't come easy anymore
Don't you, don't you wish it came easy?
Now no one's knocking at you door.
I try to think back to some incredible days
So I can make an attempt to recreate
The view from the Alps way up above
Or the very first time I fell in love
But a negative Nancy is in my brain
And all she wants to write about is goddamn pain
And my friends all think that I'm depressed
'Cause there's always something that I need off of my chest
And I feel ungrateful as a lucky guy
'Cause I have lots of amazing people in my life
But I'm drawn to the bad rather than the good
I'd write you a love song if I could
I'd write you a love song if I could.
You'd like to start a positive mix
But it can be hard to teach on old dog new tricks
How many different habits to break
Before we finally think that you're okay?
We're gonna lock you in a padded room
Till you pull out of this clouded gloom
You may tell us it's just a song
But we can't help feeling that something's wrong
You'd like to start a positive mix
But it can be hard to teach an old dog new tricks
How many different habits to break
Before we finally think that you're okay?
Don't you, don't you wish it came easy?
It doesn't come easy anymore
Everything used to come easy
It doesn't come easy anymore
Don't you, don't you wish it came easy?
Now no one's knocking at you door.
